The community that surrounds a company’s product is a key part of its growth. It is of utmost importance to treat community building as a collaborative endeavor and today we are joined by Erica Moss to hear how this is achieved at Atlassian. Erica is the Senior Manager of Community Engagement at Atlassian, and before this, she helped build some incredible communities with companies such as Trello and Bitly!


Our conversation begins with an introduction to the wide range of products offered by Atlassian which are all geared toward helping teams get work done. We talk to Erica about the diverse user base that forms the Atlassian community and the work she does to enable them to connect with each other and be involved in a two-way conversation with the company’s internal teams. Erica speaks about the need for internal teams to be educated about the value of their company’s community, for these internal teams to be actively involved in nurturing it, and for those in leadership positions to display their buy-in.


She weighs in on the importance of continuously listening to the community’s needs and building products based on those, of reflecting the very real value a community brings to a company by constantly giving back to it, and of aligning the community with the OKRs of the larger firm.
